Science-Fiction L.A.: Words and World-Building in the City of Angels will take place on October 28–29 at USC’s Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences. As the interplay between visions of the future and cities as we live in and build them is one of my very favorite subjects, I’m thrilled to have been invited to participate on a panel on LA’s central role in visions of California and the future. I’ll be in conversation with the brilliant David Ulin, M.G. Lord, and Margaret Wappler on Los Angeles as the capital of Science Fiction, picking up threads that I covered in my project Postcards from the Future. The conference kicks off on Friday night with a screening of Spike Jonze’s Her, with discussion by the LA Times architecture critic, Christopher Hawthorne.
