In late April, I’ll be presenting research that I’ve been collaborating on with Elizabeth Wissinger, on the possible futures of wearable technology, and the ways that tech-industry ideology intersects with and shapes the body, especially femme/gendered bodies. We’ll be presenting in the morning on the first day of Theorizing the Web 2018, at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens. This project has been a few years in the making, and picks up threads from my previous work with Dr. Wissinger on her book This Year’s Model, on the development of the modeling industry and the standardization of the model body over the course of the 20th century. I first heard about TtW from folks I met last year at Utopia After the Human and very much looking forward to continuing the conversations that started there, as well as checking out panels on nerd culture and “Extremely Online Socialism,” and many others that sound so fascinating, I’m not sure how I’m going to choose.
